This interesting formation is in the Tintic Mining
District south of the town of Eureka, Utah. Drive south from
Eureka on U.S. 50 and turn left at the sign onto a gravel road.
At one time, when the author visited, it was possible to drive
right up to the formation. Since the author's visit, some
mines have re-opened, closing the earlier route. The author
understands from a report on TV that it is now a one mile hike
from a marked trailhead. The formation consists of prismatic
lava which flowed from a fissure in the side of a hill-
similar to the "Devil's Postpile" in California, except the
prisms are more horizontal than vertical. The site is
administered by the BLM. See Arch in Paul Bunyan's Woodpile.
