Delicate Arch

Delicate Arch has become an unofficial trade mark of the State, appearing on license plates and in advertising media. It is not one of the larger arches; but its situation is unique, both sides rising from a horizontal plane. The opening has a height of 46 feet and a span of 32 ft. The photo of Delicate Arch from Viewpoint shows that the arch is on a large sandstone knob along with several other fins which did not form arches. Follow the main Park road past the Windows Section, descend the long downgrade, and turn right at the sign to the parking area. It is a fairly steep mile-and-a half hike to the Arch. Continuing on down the road leads to the Viewpoint. |
