Mount Forato ("Forato" means "pierced" in Italian) is part of the Apuane Alps, a mountain chain in Tuscany, Italy. The two peaks of Mt. Forato are connected by a natural arch (named "Passo dell'Arco") with a span of 105 feet and a height of about 82 feet. It is at an elevation of 4012 feet. It is near the marble quarry where Michelangelo got marble for his statues. He almost certainly saw this arch on occasion. Photo above by David Vizzoni.
