Hopewell Arch

NABSQNO 17S 273210 4189835 Kentucky      MAP

Although this is one of the best photos we have seen, the true magnificence of a visit to Hopewell Arch seemingly eludes capture on film. This and the fact it is rather hard to find results in far less visitation than the arch deserves. It is located in the Copperas Creek watershed in the Red River Gorge Geological Area. Although it is only half a mile from the road near the trailhead to Moonshiner's Arch, there is no trail and bushwhacking through heavy brush is required to reach it. Jay Wilbur measured the span using laser ranges and angles at 32 feet. Photo © by Ken Dunn (Southern Accent Photography).
