NABSQNO 12S-624710-4289810. Surprise Arch is a fin natural arch eroded through a partially emerged fin of Entrada sandstone. It is located in the Fiery Furnace area of Arches National Park. Access is via ranger guided tours that can be signed up for at the Visitor Center. Do not attempt to find this arch on your own.

Surprise Arch has a span of about 60 feet and a height of about 50 feet. It gets its name from the surprise it gave its discoverers in 1963. Two park employees, trying to find a new trail through the dense fins in this area, suddenly looked up to find themselves virtually under the previously unrecorded arch!
