Whitmore Arch
This is one of the major arches in the Maze District. It was first reported by George Tremaine Whitmore in October of 1940. He had been invited to ride along on a cattle drive. At that time, much of the area known as Ernie’s Country was grazing land for the Chaffin family ranch’s livestock. During the drive, he came upon the arch. Ned and Faun Chaffin suggested that since George was the first tourist to see and appreciate the arch, it should be named for him.     The arch has a span of 64 ft. The arch is located in the north fork of Range Canyon in the “Fins” area, UTM Coordinates 12S 583629E 41221560N, WGS84.
