Sea Natural Arch

(Genetic type)

Examples: Great Western Gateway, Sea Lion Rock, Island Arch , unnamed arch

This type of natural arch is the result of wave action on a coastal exposure of rock. Sea natural arches tend to be short lived. However, new ones are constantly forming so they are also rather common. The defining attribute for this type of natural arch is the contextual attribute of being coastal. The coast may be on any large body of water such as a lake, sea, or ocean. Because of the random nature of wave action, sea natural arches exhibit a wide variety of shapes and morphologic attributes. A maturity attribute cannot be assigned to this type of natural arch.
