This very large adult pillar natural arch has eroded through a cliff of Gila Formation conglomerate. It is located in Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument in Catron County, about 30 miles north of Silver City, New Mexico. The hiking trail through the ruins goes by the arch. Indeed, the arch provides structural support to some of the ruins! To get an idea of the size of the arch, one has to imagine the opening as if the two story building it supports were not there. This is certainly one of the largest pillar arches in existance.
