height (estimated). This arch is located somewhere in the high maze of
Sefar. Explore the area to find it. |
ALG-106, unnamed arch 17, Sefar High Maze Area. 4.8
meter span. This arch is located close to ALG-105, on the left. |
ALG-97, Tit-n-Achchel Arch, Sefar High Maze Area. 2.4
meter span by 1.1 meter height (measured). Form the two spires in the
oued (wash) described with ALG-99, leave the
wash and go north. Walk across slickrock and along the reef side to find
an access to the maze using a narrow passage with a small shrub inside.
Walk through the narrow passage and turn left. Walk for about 250 meters
northwest into the maze to the arch, which is located near a rock tower.
Tit-n-Achchel means "snake eye" in the Tamahaq language. |
ALG-82, Henri Lhote Arch,
Sefar High Maze Area. 22.1 meter span (measured). GPS 32R 574643 2729377.
From the Castle in the middle of the Avenue (see description for ALG-101),
leave the Avenue and wal northwest through the corridors of the high maze
for some 800 meters to this big arch. There are several hiking options
due to the numerous corridors. Henri Lhote (1903-1991) is a french explorer
of Tassili-n-Ajjer who found numerous rock engravings and paintings. |
ALG-84, Arch Through Arch,
Sefar High Maze Area. 5 meter height (estimated). This arch is located
opposite to ALG-82. Part of ALG-82 can be photographed through the opening
of this arch. |
ALG-85, Watering Eye, Sefar High Maze Area. 1.7 meter
span (measured). This arch is located in the wall behind ALG-82, to the
south. |
ALG-87, Wall Arch, Sefar
High Maze Area. 4.8 meter span (measured). From ALG-86, continue in the
same corridor for about 200 meters to this arch, located on the right. |
ALG-88, Peephole Arch,
Sefar High Maze Area. 9.3 meter span (measured). Fid this arch just behind
ALG-87, to the northeast. |
ALG-91, Pyramid Arch, Sefar
High Maze Area. 8 meter span by 9 meter height. From the other side of
ALG-85, walk southeast in the obvious corridor for about 200 meters to
the arch, on the left. |
ALG-92, Elephant Trunk Arch, Sefar High Maze Area. 5
meter span by 5 meter height (estimated). From ALG-91, continue in the
same corridor for about 100 meters to this arch, on the left. |
ALG-93, Black Arch, Sefar
High Maze Area. 12.5 meter span (measured). From ALG-92, continue in the
same corridor for about 150 meters to this arch, on the right. |
ALG-94, Bered Arch, Sefar
High Maze Area. 8 meter height (estimated). Adjacent to ALG-93. Bered
means "teapot" in the Tamahaq dialect. |
ALG-95, Hidden Passage Arch, Sefar High Maze Area. 4.1
meter span (measured). Pass under ALG-94 and walk down about 75 meters
to the arch, on the right. |
ALG-96, Taseklout Arch,
Sefar High Maze Area. 6 meter height (estimated). From the Castle (see
description for ALG-101), walk through the high
maze of Sefar for about 500 meters northwest to this arch. There are several
hiking options due to the numerous corridors in the area. Taseklout is
the Tuareg word to mean "take a rest under the shadow of the rock
(in this case an arch) in the hot hours of the day." |
