The World Arch Database
The World
Arch Database online is a pay service available from
Stone
Canyon Adventures, created by NABS member and former SPAN Editor Tom
Van Bebber. The World Arch Database is the largest single source of information about natural arches, with information on over 15,000 arches. Anyone may sign up to receive weekly emails listing updates to the World Arch Database. Back issues are available on the home page of their website. New NABS members are eligible for a 20% discount on their first year subscription to the World Arch Database (not owned or controlled by NABS).
Windstone
Gorgeous 2003 coffee table book on natural arches by renowned photographer David Meunch (who has been a member of NABS). Highly recommended.
Price search here. Note that the title is poetic because wind is not a factor in natural arch formation.
Unfortunately the arch on the cover, known as Windstone Arch in Nevada's Valley of Fire, was vandalized in 2021. It is now a single arch instead of a double, after the center column was destroyed, as shown in the photo below by Rich Beckman.
Online book
Geologic Wonders and Curiosities of Missouri (1990), beginning on page 200, provides information on 85 natural arches in Missouri.
NABS on Flickr and Google Maps
- Google Maps: Larry Beck's Map of New Mexico Arches Note: There are over 700 numbered arches in New Mexico. To find information on a specific numbered arch, scroll down the list on the left to the desired number and click on it and a link will come up that goes to a photo of that arch on Flickr (with additional information below the photo). The late Larry Beck is a former President of NABS.
